Memphis, Tennessee – A veteran Memphis police sergeant known for her relentless investigative work and dedication to crime victims has been honored as the “Hometown Hero” for the Western District of Tennessee.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee announced that Sergeant April Moseley of the Memphis Police Department received the prestigious recognition as part of national Freedom 250 celebrations connected to America’s upcoming 250th birthday.

United States Attorney D. Michael Dunavant formally presented the award to Sgt. Moseley during a ceremony held on May 21, 2026.

Federal officials said the “Hometown Hero” recognition celebrates individuals who represent the ideals of liberty, public service, and civic responsibility through extraordinary dedication to their communities and country.

According to the Department of Justice, Sgt. Moseley was one of only 93 people selected nationwide to receive the honor.

More Than Two Decades of Service in Memphis

Sgt. Moseley has served with the Memphis Police Department for more than 21 years and has worked in numerous specialized divisions throughout her career.

Officials said her assignments have included the Organized Crime Unit, the Sex Crimes Bureau, the General Investigations Bureau, and Uniformed Patrol.

She currently serves with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, where she investigates major cases while also overseeing daily operations involving officers from several law enforcement agencies.

Federal officials praised her persistence and commitment to thoroughly pursuing every investigative lead.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Sgt. Moseley continues working cases until “every single investigative option has been fully explored.”

Authorities also emphasized her victim-centered approach to policing, noting that she works closely with victims to keep them informed about investigations and ensure their legal rights are protected.

U.S. Attorney Dunavant praised Sgt. Moseley’s dedication to justice and public safety during the ceremony.

“Sgt. April Moseley is most deserving of this high honor to recognize her tireless work to achieve justice for victims and consequences for criminals,” Dunavant said.

He also connected the recognition to the broader national celebration of America’s history and public service traditions.

“As we celebrate our Nation’s 250th Birthday, it is our honor to also recognize, celebrate, and thank Sgt. Moseley for her outstanding service to Memphis, the Western District of Tennessee, and the United States,” he added. “She is truly our Hometown Hero.”

Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn “CJ” Davis attended the ceremony and publicly commended Sgt. Moseley for her professionalism and years of service.

Chief Davis described the recognition as one of the proudest moments a police chief can experience when officers receive acknowledgment for their work.

“This is truly one of the most joyous experiences in a Chief’s career when they see their hard-working officers, supervisors recognized for the work that they do,” Davis said.

She also described Sgt. Moseley as someone deeply focused on accomplishing the mission and serving the community.

Chief Davis stated that Sgt. Moseley is “professional and about getting the work done,” while expressing pride in seeing her selected as Memphis’ Hometown Hero.

The ceremony took place at the U.S. Attorney’s Office and was attended by Sgt. Moseley’s family members, Memphis Police Department commanders, FBI Safe Streets Task Force officers, law enforcement partners, and friends.
