Water line relocation project in Hendersonville brings temporary road closures and daytime traffic delays

Hendersonville, Tennessee – Construction-related utility work tied to a major roadway project in Hendersonville is continuing this spring, with crews already relocating water lines ahead of larger construction efforts expected to begin in 2026.

Officials said utility companies have started moving underground utility infrastructure in preparation for the future road construction project. Hendersonville Utility District, commonly known as HUD, is currently handling water line relocation work in the affected area.

According to project officials, the relocation work began in late March and could continue for as long as three months.

While most activity is expected to remain off the roadway itself, drivers should still prepare for periodic traffic disruptions, including single-lane closures and temporary detours.

Officials stated that efforts are being made to reduce traffic impacts as much as possible during construction activity. Any lane closures are restricted to daytime hours between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Multiple Closures and Detours Planned

Drivers in the area are expected to encounter several temporary traffic changes during the final days of May and early June.

On Tuesday, May 26, officials said Stop 30 Road between Spearpoint Drive and Drakes Creek Road will temporarily close.

Residents traveling through the area are being advised to use Arrowhead Drive to Drakes Creek Road or travel through Stop 30 Road toward Saundersville Road as alternate routes.

The following day, Wednesday, May 27, crews are scheduled to implement a single-lane closure on Drakes Creek Road north of Stop 30 Road.

Traffic flaggers will be stationed in the area to assist drivers and help maintain traffic flow while utility work continues.

A longer closure is planned beginning Thursday, May 28, and continuing through June 5.

During that period, Drakes Creek Road between Arrowhead Drive and Stop 30 will close during daytime hours while crews continue utility relocation work.

Drivers will be rerouted through Arrowhead Drive, Spearpointe, and Stop 30 as part of the official detour route established for the project.

Officials noted that the road will reopen each weekday by 4 p.m., allowing normal evening traffic to resume. The roadway will also remain open during the weekend despite the ongoing construction schedule.

Local officials are encouraging motorists to allow extra travel time, pay close attention to detour signs, and remain cautious while traveling near active work zones.

The utility relocation work represents an early stage of a broader construction effort planned for the area beginning in spring 2026. Authorities say completing the underground utility adjustments now will help prepare the corridor for future roadway improvements and reduce delays once full construction begins next year.
