Nashville, Tennessee – Residents in Nashville are being warned about a new scam targeting local bank customers, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. Authorities say recent reports show victims are being contacted by individuals posing as bank representatives and pressured to withdraw large amounts of cash.
Police issued a strong warning to the public after several incidents revealed a similar pattern. Scammers contact victims claiming there has been fraudulent activity, a compromised account, or stolen funds. The caller then instructs the victim to withdraw money from their bank account and meet a driver to hand over the cash in person.
Police urge residents to stay alert
Officials emphasize that legitimate financial institutions do not request customers to withdraw cash and give it to strangers. The department shared a clear warning to prevent further losses, stating, “PLEASE DO NOT EVER withdraw cash and hand it to an unknown person.”
Authorities say the scam relies on fear and urgency to pressure victims into acting quickly without verifying the information. Residents are encouraged to hang up and contact their bank directly using official phone numbers if they receive such calls.
Anyone who receives a suspicious call from someone claiming to represent a bank is urged to report it immediately by contacting the MNPD Fraud Unit at 615-862-8600.
Police continue to monitor reports and stress that awareness is the best defense against fraud schemes designed to exploit trust and create panic.
