Nashville father faces charges after infant daughter dies from internal injuries

Nashville, Tennessee – A father faces serious charges following the death of his 5-month-old daughter due to internal injuries. The Metro Nashville Police Department reported responding to a distress call at a residence on Dodson Chapel Road on Monday, February 12, where they found an unresponsive infant.

Upon their arrival, officers encountered a dire situation, with the infant showing no signs of responsiveness. One officer immediately commenced CPR, managing to resuscitate her temporarily before she was rushed to the Children’s Hospital at TriStar Centennial Medical Center. It was there that medical professionals uncovered the extent of the baby’s injuries, which included bleeding on the brain, retinal hemorrhages, and a fractured leg.

The investigation into the incident revealed that the baby’s father, 33-year-old Ryan Sosa, was looking after her while her mother was at work. Sosa claimed the injuries might have occurred when the baby fell off a bed. Nonetheless, the medical team advised that the nature of the infant’s injuries pointed towards non-accidental trauma.

Originally charged with aggravated child abuse, the situation took a grimmer turn when police announced on the evening of Friday, February 16, that the infant had succumbed to her injuries. In light of this tragic development, detectives are in talks with the District Attorney’s Office regarding the modification of charges against Sosa.

Currently held in the Metro Jail, Sosa’s bond is set at $100,000 as the community reels from the tragic loss of a young life and the circumstances leading to it.
