Metro Nashville Public Schools: More methane gas leak on campus at elementary school in Goodlettsville

Metro Nashville Public Schools announced on Friday that an elementary school in Goodlettsville is being relocated temporarily due to another methane gas leak on the premises.

A statement revealed that students from Old Center Elementary are being moved to the old Gra-Mar Middle School at 575 Joyce Lane. This development occurred Friday morning, leading to the prompt relocation of students from portable classrooms to the main building of the school.

In a similar incident in September, students from Old Center Elementary were moved to Goodlettsville Elementary following the emergence of a methane gas pocket during drilling activities for a new extension at Old Center.

The former Gra-Mar Middle School site has a history of being a makeshift arrangement, previously accommodating Goodlettsville Elementary students during the construction of their new building.

The district has advised parents who usually pick up or drop off their children at Old Center Elementary to now do so at the Gra-Mar site at the usual times. Metro Nashville Public Schools will maintain regular bus services for students who commute by bus. The district plans to evaluate the situation over the upcoming weekend.
