A resident of Gallatin has been apprehended and faces theft charges for fabricating a down payment, thereby defrauding a property purchaser.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation disclosed that in July 2021, they initiated a probe into a theft claim against Mayolo Ochoa. This action followed the discovery that the complainant had purchased land in Sumner County in May 2020 via an intermediary.
Investigators explained that Ochoa deceived the buyer by claiming a $50,000 down payment was mandatory, in addition to the property’s listed price in the promissory note. Subsequently, the victim fulfilled the promissory note payments to the land seller and also transferred the down payment to Ochoa.
Nonetheless, the TBI’s investigation uncovered that the down payment demand was a fabrication, crafted by Ochoa for personal gain.
On Friday, 54-year-old Ochoa was detained, taken to the Sumner County Jail, and faces a theft charge.
His bail has been set at $5,000.
